Old Phuket Town

Old Phuket Town is where the most historic buildings in the city are to be found, with plenty of Sino-Portuguese architecture contributed by the Chinese tin-mining immigrants that settled in Phuket centuries ago. Those that became rich through tin mining built huge colonial-style mansions, many of which still stand today and are preserved as museums, shops or private residences. You won’t need to catch a Tuk Tuk within Old Phuket Town, as it is relatively small compared to Phuket Town as a whole. There are plenty of sights to see here and fascinating shops to be found, as well as a number of Chinese temples and shrines. Old Phuket Town is an excellent place to visit for both historians and bargain-hunters.
