The Phuket Butterfly Garden and Insectarium is open every day, and is an ideal outing for the budget conscious tourist, since admission here is free. The butterfly dome contains literally hundreds of different types of butterfly, and it is fascinating to see them flitting about freely. Various plants and water features combine to make a home for a rich variety of species, and there are several kinds of fish and insects to be seen. One part of the garden is sealed off with good reason – it contains huge insects and spiders of many varieties that might not be entirely safe if they were allowed to roam freely around the dome! It is currently the only insectarium in Thailand, and was built with the help of Kasetsart University. To find the Phuket Butterfly Garden and Insectarium, head north a couple of kilometers out of Phuket Town and follow the signs.
