The Phuket Tin Mining Museum

Address: Kathu district area, near Loch Palm golf course on the Kathu – Ko Kaeo road, in Phuket.
Open Hours: Open from 08:00 to 16:00 – Closed on Sunday.

The Phuket Tin Mining Museum is to be found near the Loch Palm golf course in Kathu, which is well signposted. A lot of work has gone into perfecting this museum. Work began in 1999, and it was eventually completed and opened to the general public in 2008. Phuket has a rich history of tin mining, which at one time was Phuket’s main source of wealth. Many of the exhibits have been generously donated by the people of Phuket, and mining companies have also stepped in to help. The museum was constructed in the beautiful Sino-Portuguese style that typifies the ancient architecture of Chinese immigrants to Thailand from long ago. An opium den, set-ups of what an old tin mine look like, and literally hundreds of metals and other materials are on show here.
