Two Heroines Monument

Anybody who heads to the south of Phuket from the airport is likely to encounter the Two Heroines Monument, as it is situated in the middle of one of Phuket’s major roundabouts. The two women who are being honored are Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Soontorn, and they are famous for defeating a Burmese invasion into Phuket over 200 years ago. They used a mixture of bravery and cunning to repel the invaders – they rallied the citizens of Phuket into a valiant fight, and they also tricked the Burmese by dressing hundreds of women as Thai soldiers and marching them around. Convinced that reinforcements had arrived from Bangkok, the Burmese fled. Many Thai people come here to pay tribute to the Two Heroines.
