Chalong Bay
Chalong Bay is located in the town of Chalong, and is considered by many to be the “gateway to paradise”. This is because most of the boat trips out to the exotic and magnificent islands to the south set off from Chalong. If you want to go island hopping during your stay in Phuket, then Chalong Bay offers the best possible base for you to stay. After the blockbuster success of “The Beach”, the magnificently beautiful islands of Phi Phi (pronounced “pee pee”) have become increasing popular, and numerous boats go there from Chalong Bay every day.
Because it is very popular as a harbor destination, Chalong beach is a little busier than would be ideal for a sun-worshipper, but you can still catch some sunshine and go for a swim here. The beaches of Rawai are only 10 minutes away, Nai Harn is only 15 minutes to the west, and Chalong Bay is less than 15 minutes from Phuket Town, where every amenity you could wish for is at your disposal.
Chalong is home to many foreign guests now residing in Phuket, and there is a lively nightlife to be found here. An excellent mix of tourists and Thais mean that you get to experience all the local Thai culture, while still having plenty of home comforts (there are two supermarkets here including a Tesco). Chalong has some good hotels – particularly fine are the 4 star hotel resort known as Chalong Beach Hotel & Spa, and of course the grandeur of the 5 star Villa Zolitude Resort and Spa.
The view out onto Chalong Bay itself is extremely beautiful, with the harbor dotted with yachts and fishing boats, and the azure sea stretching out to the horizon. The beach itself is fine for swimming and sunbathing, although at some point you are sure to take a boat trip out to the Phi Phi Islands to experience some of the very best beaches in the world. Chalong offers a unique blend of homeliness and beauty that appeal to every person who visits here.
