Khao Lak
Khao Lak Beach is a pristine series of beaches with golden sands and a vista that will take your breath away. Khao Lak Beach stretches for several kilometers, broken up only by small streams and tributaries, but in essence it is a huge expanse of sand where you will always be able to find a quiet spot where you can relax, taking in the tranquil surroundings.
Only an hour North of Phuket Airport by car or taxi, the first sands you will encounter on the main road are those of Khao Lak South Beach, and just around the cape you will come to the glorious Sunset and Nang Thong beaches which are home to some of the area’s top hotels and resorts - just a few steps away from the picturesque La On village. Just beyond La On is Bang Niang Village, which is where you will find the famous Bang Niang beach.
Further north you will find Khuk Khak Beach, Pakweeb Beach and Bangsak beach, each of which are delightful and have various amenities for you to enjoy. The local culture is well worth taking in, and you are sure to be made to feel welcome by the Thai people of Khao Lak.
Khao Lak is famous not just for its beaches, but also for its diving opportunities. Similian Island and Surin Island are two of the best places to dive in the world, and they are only a couple of hours boat ride away from the shores of Khao Lak. There are numerous diving schools here who organize daily trips out to Similian Island and Surin Island, which are renowned for being two of the best diving locations in the world, as well having enchanting beaches and lagoons.
The whole Khao Lak beach area is largely unspoiled by overdevelopment, and is considered by many to have the finest beaches in Thailand. Whether you want to lie by yourself tanning on an empty yet beautiful beach, go swimming or snorkeling in the crystalline seas, or simply sit at a beach-side bar sipping a refreshing cocktail while watching the sun go down, Khao Lak is a genuine tropical paradise.
