Nai Harn Beach
Nai Harn Beach is a gloriously beautiful stretch of sand on the south-west coast of Phuket. The clear blue waters are very calm during peak season, which means that you can swim to your heart’s content, if you are not already too busy topping up your tan on the fine sands that can be found here. There are never too many people here, since it is a good 30 minutes or more to the biggest beach destinations such as Patong, and you will find as many Thai locals as tourists enjoying the sun and the sea. Nai Harn Beach is regarded as the best place for swimming in Phuket during high season, especially if you go to the tranquil still waters of the salt water lagoon, which fills up during high tide.
One of the interesting features of Nai Harn is that there is a lake just behind the beach itself – if you are lucky, there may be some dragon boat races in progress here. Nai Harn also has 3 separate Muay Thai boxing gyms, so if you want to see some authentic Thai Boxing, it’s an excellent place to visit. Nai Harn is also fortunate enough to be only 5 minutes away from the famous Promthep Cape, where crowds of people gather daily to witness the glorious sunsets.
Nai Harn has hotels for every budget, from good basic facilities to the outstanding world-class resort of the Royal Phuket Yacht Club. There are a decent number of eateries here, including the outstanding Italian food on offer at the Da Vinci Restaurant. Nai Harn village itself is not huge, but it still manages to offer a decent variety of shops, including a supermarket. The nightlife here is on a small scale, but very enjoyable and friendly, and reasonably priced.
Nai Harn manages to offer something for everybody – good facilities and lots of local attractions. But the thing that brings everybody here is the delightful beach, its sparkling clear warm waters and its gently waving palm trees. Nai Harn is every beach-lover’s dream come true.
