The last few decades have seen Phuket grow from a tin mining and rubber economy to a vibrant ‘must visit’ holiday destination. Phuket, just 8° north of the equator, is the largest Island in Thailand, is situated in the Andaman Sea off the west coast. Phuket Island, now connected to the mainland by a bridge, is surrounded by 39 smaller islands.
Just beyond Phuket, a short boat trip away, is Phi Phi Island, the stunning scenery of Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island (Ko Tapu or Nail Island), which was brought to the world’s attention by the film “The Man with the Golden Gun”.
