Shopping, Phuket Travel Guide

A holiday is not a holiday without shopping. You not be disappointed in Phuket. There are local and tourist markets, street vendors and western style malls. Thailand is well known for its silks, jewelry, ceramics, handicrafts, woodcrafts, bronze and lacquer ware which are rated very highly for their craftsmanship. There are many antique bargains, but please remember these cannot be exported.
Most western items are available at the major centers such as Jung Ceylon, Tesco Lotus and Central. Although some items are comparatively expensive, because of import taxes.

Old Phuket Town which mainly covers Thalang, Dibuk, Yaowarat, Rassada and Phang Nga roads are fasinating to explore and take in the atmosphere. Particularly if you are looking for something different to take back home.
Shops in Patong, Kata and Karon are more ‘for the tourist’, but offer some interesting wares, and good prices (with some polite bargaining).

The best way to shop in Thailand is to take along a local. Ask at you hotel. There will be no shortages of volunteers!
